About the Webinar
This program will focus on the requirements for hospitals to prevent ligature risk and self-harm from patients that are suicidal. Any hospital that receives Medicare must implement these changes for all patients.

Lead speaker Sue Dill Calloway will share tools and resources to help facilities identify the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and the Joint Commission (TJC) updates that hospitals should make sure are implemented. For CMS updates, this includes what units need to be ligature resistant, what patient and environmental assessments needs to be completed, and what policy and procedure requirements followed. For TJC requirements, standards compliance involves psych hospitals, behavioral health units, general acute care inpatient units, outpatient units and emergency departments. Sue Dill Calloway will also discuss the Zero Suicide Campaign and the TJC Sentinel Event Alerts on suicide.

Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this session, the participants will be able to:

1. Identify the two CMS tag numbers that set forth requirements to prevent ligature risks for patients with suicidal ideations.
2. Discuss the Joint Commission requirements for hospitals to follow in order to prevent patients from self harm, including hanging or strangulation
3. Describe the CMS recommendation for education in orientation, since policies change every two years.
